AIM’s Technical Approach
- Advanced Manufacturing: We utilize Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) with vacuum casting to create ultra-hard in-situ titanium carbide (TiC) reinforcement layers within wear parts. This ensures metallurgical bonding, eliminates gas porosity, and achieves layer thickness of 10–25 mm

TiC Reinforced Chrome White Iron (TiC CWI)
- Ultra-fine (<3 µm) TiC layers formed in-situ via SHS within ASTM A532 IIB Chrome White Iron
- Vacuum casting removes slag and pores, ensuring dense, crack-resistant bonding
- Additional TiC dispersion in the matrix enhances toughness and impact resistance
- Verified by NRC (Canada): Up to 2–3x wear life improvement with consistent wear patterns
Sintered Titanium Carbide (Sintered TiC)
- Iron-rich sintered matrix allows strong cast-in bonding to steel and iron substrates
- Hardness up to 936 HV, with lower density than WC-Co (less residual stress, lower cost)
- Ideal for ground engaging tools (GET) like crusher teeth and excavation components
Reaction Bonded Silicon Carbide (RBSC) / SHS-Modified CWI
- SHS process introduces in-situ TiC reinforcement on Chrome White Iron surfaces
